Over 1.5 million people live in the greater Milwaukee area, which stretches south to Kenosha and west to Waukesha. If the college attainment rate of this region rises from 29.4 to 30.4 percent, it would add an additional $1.2 billion to the local economy.
At the center of Milwaukee's talent development efforts is
My Life! My Plan!, a pilot program that helps high school students understand the job market and get an early start at planning their careers. The program has earned the financial support of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development through a grant that will allow My Life My Plan to expand and form partnerships with area high schools and technical colleges.
Groups representing the seven-county effort to increase college completion rates in the area include the
Greater Milwaukee Committee,
KnowHow2Go Wisconsin, and the Cultural Alliance of Greater Milwaukee, along with local universities, schools, and businesses.
